# Music

> reskate-music.json: playlists for the songs a mod adds, in the game's music screen, with cover art for playlists and songs.

A mod that adds songs can give them playlists of their own in the game's music screen, with `reskate-music.json` at the top of its folder.

```json theme={null}
{
    "schema": 1,
    "playlists": [
        {"name": "My Playlist", "artwork": "artwork/playlist.png", "songs": ["Artist - Title", "Artist - Other Title"]}
    ],
    "song_artwork": {"Artist - Title": "artwork/track.png"}
}
```

The songs themselves still have to be added by the mod's game data. The file only arranges them.

## Fields

**schema** `integer` *required*

`1`.

**playlists** `object[]` *required*

At most 64 playlists. Each has a `name` and a list of `songs` (both required) and an `artwork`.

**playlists\[].songs** `string[]` *required*

At most 1024 songs, each its artist and title exactly as the mod registers them, joined by `-`.

**playlists\[].artwork** `string`

The playlist's cover.

**song\_artwork** `object`

A song's cover, by its `"Artist - Title"`. At most 4096 songs.

* Text is at most 255 bytes, without control characters.
* A song that matches no song in the game is ignored, and a playlist with no matching songs is not shown.
* A file without `schema` 1 and a `playlists` list, or with a playlist missing its `name` or `songs`, is skipped, and the log says why.

ReSkate reads the files again when they change, so you can work on a playlist while the game runs.

## Cover art

Covers are PNG files in the mod's folder:

* The path is relative to the mod's folder, with `/` between folders, ending in `.png`. It cannot start with `/` or hold `\`, `:`, `%`, `?`, `#` or `..`.
* An image is at most 2048 by 2048 pixels and 4 MB.

A missing or broken cover is ignored, and the playlist or song keeps the rest. The game's own covers keep their place.
