ReSkate leaves a mod out whole, never half of it, and loads the rest. Each case below says what you see and what to do. The full messages are in logs\ReSkate.log.

Built for another version of skate.

ReSkate supports one game build. A mod with game data carries a build stamp, and one built for another version does not load.
  • The launcher marks it OUTDATED: Made for another version of Skate.
  • In game, a message box ReSkate: outdated mods disabled names it.
  • The log says why, for example it was built for another game version, or it ships game data without a ReSkate Studio game version stamp.
Get an updated version from its author, or rebuild it with the latest ReSkate Studio. When the log says a mod was made for game build ... and adds that your game files are not the version ReSkate supports, the problem is your game: open the launcher’s Settings and press Verify game files.

Cannot be merged cleanly

A mod whose files cannot be read, or that points at files it does not have (an incomplete folder, or parts of two versions), is left out.
  • On PLAY, the launcher says A MOD COULD NOT BE MERGED, and offers SWITCH IT OFF AND PLAY, Open Mod Manager and Play anyway.
  • In game, the tile says NOT LOADED.
  • The log says Mod <name> was not loaded because it could not be merged cleanly, with what went wrong.
Reinstall the whole mod folder, or rebuild it with a current ReSkate Studio. ReSkate remembers the mod as left out until its files change.

Conflicts

Two mods that change the same parts of the game in ways that cannot be combined conflict, and only the higher one loads. See the load order. To load the other one, move it above, or turn one of them off.

Copies of store items

Every cosmetic the game sells in its store stays sold: ReSkate does not hand out store items, and a mod cannot either. A mod that adds an item copying a store item is left out whole, and is told only merge error 0x5343. An item counts as a copy when it:
  • uses a look (an appearance, a decal, a player card picture, an object or a gesture) that only a store item has;
  • is fitted on a shape only a store item has, such as a whole costume;
  • has item data that matches a store item’s, field for field;
  • ships a mesh that matches one of the store’s costumes.
Anything that a free item also has belongs to nobody, and mods may use it. Make cosmetics from items the game gives away.

Custom scripts

Custom Lua scripts (scripts/Custom) are switched off: nothing in that folder is read or run. Mods with code are plugins, which run sandboxed.

Plugins that ship programs

A plugin is not loaded when its folder holds a program or a script Windows runs: a file ending in .exe, .dll, .sys, .scr, .com, .cpl, .msi, .msp, .bat, .cmd, .ps1, .psm1, .vbs, .vbe, .js, .jse, .wsf, .wsh, .hta, .lnk, .pif or .reg, or any file that is a Windows program. A plugin folder can hold at most 20000 files. See the plugin manifest.

Mods that change scoring or physics

A mod that changes how tricks score, the skater’s physics, tuning or gestures, throwdowns or leaderboards is not refused: it loads. ReSkate warns you that it changes scoring or physics. In multiplayer, such a player is kept out of throwdowns and co-op challenges. The chat says: Your mods change scoring or physics (<mods>), so throwdowns and coop challenges are off for you in this session. Turn them off and restart Skate to take part.
  • A lobby host turns the check off with the console’s score-check off.
  • A dedicated server’s anti_cheat.modified_scoring is off, warn (the default) or kick, and allowed_scoring_mods lets chosen mods through. See the server’s README.
Mods that only add new files, which the game does not have, do not count.
